Collisions & Connections in Williamsburg

Pulling program from the street level and inserting it into the sky. The Urban Artery provides opportunities for residents to interact within the structures, in ways unseen in typical tower style housing, mimicking life as seen in surrounding Williamsburg at ground level. The towers provide amenities from bakeries, to exercise facilities, to salons. These amenities are vital to both the micro unit inhabitants of the structure, as an extension of their home, to the three bedroom neighbor looking to meet new people. Anywhere in the artery, people can unexpectedly meet neighbors, run into tourists, or find new clients. The towers provide opportunities for unexpected connection.

The Urban Artery caters to the designer, the entrepreneur, the tinkerer, the student. It provides workshops and tools, offices and meeting areas. This added program in the sky allows residents to expand their horizons, build upon skills, and work in a new and exciting environment. Residents and other New Yorkers can rent out offices as needed, join groups catering to their interests, and explore the products of other artery users.

The Urban Artery is a playground for all. It provides entertainment and opportunity for experimentation. The artery is a social hub, a destination, and a staple of life for the can do, crafty Williamsburg resident. The artery strives to forge new connections, from partnering unusual industries to linking people.

The Urban Artery: A Programmatic Mixed-Use Skywalk

Residents and the public can participate in a variety of live, work & play experiences within the Williamsburg towers. An Urban Artery, or continuation of the mixed use nature of the street is inserted into the towers, providing opportunities for people to connect with others and discover amenities.

Contrasting Facades:

Angled residential windows allow occupation of the window and multiple viewing directions, taking advantage of the waterfront locale. In addition, the reflective nature of the windows shows the passer-by two sides of Williamsburg simultaneously, creating a colorful changing reflective skin. The Urban Artery, meanwhile, is showcased in transparent planar glowing boxes. Demonstrating the connected and dynamic nature of the site.
